Pasture Raised Pork

Note: We are not raising pork in 2017.

Our pigs are raised outside with uninterrupted access to fresh grass, they spent most of this past summer on a 2.5 acre wood lot with maples, cedar and grasses. We feed our pigs local grains mixed with organic supplements. We expect this year’s pigs to be ready for pickup from the butcher in November of 2016. Our hogs are going to Maplewood Meats in Green Bay on November 7th.

Pasture Raised Pork

Price

We charge $2.50/lb based on hanging weight. We try to finish our pigs between 200 and 300lbs so you can expect a hanging weight of between 140-210lbs. The butcher charges about $1/lb to process and package the pig. This can include hams, sausage, bacon, brats and ground pork. You will be able to customize how your pig is cutup and packaged once we drop it off, and for that reason the processing/packaging cost can vary significantly.

A whole pig finishing around 250lbs (175lbs hanging) will cost you about $615 ($440 to us and $175 to the butcher) and you can expect to receive between 120-150lbs of commercial cut meat. The price can vary a lot based on the weight of the pig. You can select your preference when you make your reservation, but we can not guarantee final weights and won’t know them until after they are dropped off. We charge the same per pound for both half and whole orders.

What You’ll Get

You can expect “About 23 pork chops from a half pig, 2 roasts, 1 fresh ham, 8 lbs of fresh bacon slab, 3 lbs of spare ribs, 9 lbs of ground pork, etc totaling about 75 lbs in the freezer for this half pig. That was a little on the high side. Most pigs are between 60 and 70 lbs for a half share… This can vary with the individual pig as well as how thick pork chops are cut and such.” Read more about what to expect here: What is a Half a Pig Share.

Reserve a Half or Whole Pig

We require a non refundable deposit to reserve you a pig. For a whole pig $150 and for a half pig $100. The only circumstances where this money will be refunded is if we fail to deliver. Here is what you can expect after you make this payment:

  2. After we drop them off we will contact you again with the exact hanging weight and provide instructions on how to pay us.
  3. When payment is received we will give you information to contact the butcher to customize how your pig is processed and packaged.
  4. When your pig is ready you will be able to pick it up from the butcher. At pickup, you will be expected to pay the processing fees.
